This is one of my students, Alden, playing along to the Twenty One Pilots song "HeavyDirtySoul,'' and doing a damn fine job of it. He is 10 years old in the 6th grade and was just asked to play for the middle school jazz band! Schools usually don't allow 6th graders to even come close to playing percussion until 7th grade. We have just started working on the charts for the first 2 Jazz tunes and having a lot of fun in the process. ​​​

​​My student, Jay, playing along to Green Day's "Basket Case." He is 13 and he came to me for lessons for about a year before filming this. He already had some chops when I took him on,  when I brought up the idea of filming a cover tune before I moved to NY he chose this one. A pretty difficult song even for someone who has been playing for years, and he crushed it! We would break the song into small parts and push the metronome every week, and he obviously put in the work at home.

My student, Isabelle, playing along to Twenty One Pilots song "Heathens"has come a very long way! She's only 14 and  just started playing the drums 6 months before shooting this video! The girl catches on so quickly and has a natural understanding of music, plus she's a perfectionist! I can barely keep up with how quickly she's learning. ​
